Privacy Policy
Last updated: 22 July 2026
PayExpert (“we”, “us”) operates payexpert.com.au. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and what you can do about it. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
The short version
- Our calculators never send your numbers anywhere. Everything you type into a PayExpert calculator is processed in your browser. Your salary, HECS debt, deductions and results are never transmitted to or stored on our servers.
- Salary submissions are anonymous by design. We publish them only as aggregates and de-identified entries — never your name, your email, or your employer tied to your individual figure.
- We don’t sell your data. Ever, to anyone.
- You don’t need an account. There is no login, and we don’t build profiles of individual visitors.
What we collect
1. Salary submissions (only if you choose to submit)
If you use Submit your salary, we collect what you enter: job title, industry, state, city, employment type, years of experience and your annual base salary. You may optionally add total package, bonus, employer super rate, company size, company name, and your email address.
How those fields are treated:
- Email address — optional, never displayed publicly, and used only to confirm your submission or notify you when it is published. It is not added to any marketing list without your say-so.
- Company name — used only to build aggregate figures. It is never displayed against an individual submission.
- Everything else — may appear publicly in de-identified form: for example “$95,000 · NSW · 3–5 yrs experience · full-time”, and as part of median and percentile calculations.
Please don’t submit information that identifies you or breaches an agreement you’ve made with your employer. Submissions are reviewed by a person before publication.
2. Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are useful. It sets cookies and collects your IP address (truncated by Google), device and browser type, pages viewed and approximate location. We also use Vercel Analytics, which measures page performance and traffic without cookies.
You can opt out of Google Analytics with Google’s browser add-on, or block cookies in your browser settings. The site works fully either way.
3. Server logs
Like any website, our hosting records requests, including IP addresses. We use this to keep the site running and to rate-limit salary submissions so one person can’t flood the data. We don’t use it to identify individuals.
4. What we don’t collect
No accounts, no passwords for visitors, no payment details, no tax file numbers, and — worth repeating — nothing you type into a calculator.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers to run the site:
- Vercel — hosting and delivery. Processes requests and server logs.
- Supabase — the database that stores salary submissions. Our database is hosted in Sydney, Australia.
- Google — analytics, as described above.
Some of these providers are based overseas or use overseas infrastructure, so your information may be processed outside Australia. We don’t sell, rent or trade personal information, and we don’t share salary submissions with employers, recruiters or data brokers.
Our market salary figures come from third-party data sources. We send those services only role titles and locations from our own list — never anything you have submitted or entered.
How we protect it
- All traffic is encrypted in transit (HTTPS).
- Database access is restricted by row-level security: the public site can add a submission and read published aggregates, but cannot read submitted email addresses or unreviewed entries.
- Administrative access is password protected and limited to the operator.
No system is perfectly secure, but we keep the amount of personal information we hold deliberately small — which is the most effective protection of all.
How long we keep it
Approved salary submissions are kept indefinitely as part of the dataset, because historical pay data is what makes trends meaningful. Older submissions carry less weight in our calculations over time. Rejected submissions and their details are deleted periodically. You can ask us to delete your submission at any time.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you;
- correct anything that’s wrong;
- delete your salary submission or your email address.
Email privacy@payexpert.com.au and we’ll respond within a reasonable time, normally 30 days. If you submitted anonymously without an email address, we may not be able to locate your specific entry — tell us as much detail as you can (role, state, approximate date and amount) and we’ll do our best.
Complaints
If you think we’ve mishandled your personal information, contact us first at privacy@payexpert.com.au. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Children
PayExpert is intended for people in the workforce and isn’t directed at children. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
Changes
We may update this policy as the site develops. The “last updated” date above always reflects the current version, and material changes will be noted on this page.
